Col. John Reddy

Retired Marine Col. John Joseph Peter Reddy, 86, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Colony Ridge Nursing Home in Nags Head, N.C., where he had resided since 2007.

He was born on Aug. 24, 1927, in New York City. After graduating in 1950 from St. John's University in New York, he was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. As a Marine aviator, he flew many types of aircraft including the A-6E Intruder. He served as commanding officer of Marine All Weather Attack Squadron 225 in Vietnam. He later advanced to commanding officer, Marine Aircraft Group 14, Cherry Point, N.C.

He rose to the rank of colonel, and retired in 1979 from active duty on the faculty of the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk.

After retirement from the Marine Corps, he served as a financial planner for the city of Norfolk for 10 years.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Theresa M. Reddy of Southern Shores, N.C.; five married children; and 11 grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at the Marine Corps Base Quantico Chapel. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery.
