Mary E. Greenup

Mary Elizabeth Greenup, 77, passed away at the VCU Medical Center in Richmond surrounded by family on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, from complications following heart surgery.

She was born on June 20, 1936, the daughter of Edward Taylor and Ruth Barr Hendrickson of Trenton, N.J. She was an alumna of St. Mary's Hall, now Doane Academy, in Burlington, N.J., and Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia.

As a Fredericksburg resident for more than 50 years, she was active in numerous community organizations and volunteer groups throughout the area, most recently the Meridian Club and WINGS. She was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church and, for many years, she managed the gift shop at the Historic Kenmore mansion.

She loved her family, her many friends, animals, flowers, the sun and the sea.

She is survived by her loving husband of more than 55 years, H. William Greenup; two daughters, Elizabeth Greenup White of Fredericksburg and Mary Taylor Greenup of Orofino, Idaho; and three grandsons, Pearson, Turner and Ryelan White.

A memorial service will be held this spring when the weather is warmer and the flowers are starting to bloom, which is the best time to celebrate her life and the person she was to all who loved her.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to St. George's Church, 905 Princess Anne St., Fredericksburg, VA 22401; or Doane Academy, 350 Riverbank, Burlington, NJ 08016.
