Shirley N. Bohon

Shirley Nay Bohon, 76, a resident of Fredericksburg and formerly of Gilman, W.Va., left on her journey to eternity, to the place her Lord has prepared for her, on Monday, March 3, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on March 9, 1937, in the coal mining community of Harding, W.Va., a daughter of the late Alfred Detroit Nay Sr. and Ruby Blanche Wilson Nay. She was a resident of Randolph County, W.Va., moving to Virginia in 2012.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Lavon Bohon Hoover and husband William Robert Hoover of Gilman; two grandchildren, Taryn Leigh Bohon Lane and husband Rudy Ashton Lane of Fredericksburg and James Patrick Bohon of Gilman; two great-grandchildren, Madelyn Bohon Lane and Brenden Trotter Lane of Fredericksburg; her brother-in-law, William F. Waina of Grass Valley, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

She loved working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing Scrabble, reading, writing, chatting on the computer and gardening, and had a special talent for cooking. In her younger days, she traveled extensively, and had a particular fondness for the beach. She especially cherished the time spent with her beloved great-grandchildren, and was very devoted to God and the church.

At her request, there will be no services, and her remains will be cremated and placed beside her husband's in the family memorial on their property in Gilman. She requested that one offer comfort to her survivors and remember her in one's own special way.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Hospice Care, Mary Washington Hospital Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
