F.C. Duke Zeller

F.C. Duke Zeller, beloved son and brother, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014.

Fritz Carl Zeller Jr. was born May 27, 1942, in Peoria, Ill. He is survived by his mother, Dena Zeller of Reston; his sister, Anita Essalih of Houston; and his brother, Dean Zeller of Reston.

Duke graduated from Capitol Page School in Washington, D.C., in 1960 and attended Dartmouth College and George Washington University. He served four years as a page for Sen. Everett Dirksen and then as his personal assistant in the Senate cloakroom. Duke went on to become vice president of Hill and Knowlton, communications director for the Internationl Brotherhood of Teamsters and executive director of the Virginia Thoroughbred Association. He was vice chairman of the Presidential Inaugural Committees in 1969, '81 and '89. Duke narrowly lost a race for a Stafford-based seat in the Virginia House of Delegates in 1977.

The family is holding a funeral for Duke at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fredericksburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given in Duke's name to Catholic Charities.
