Mary J. Sanders

Mary Josephine Sanders, 93, of Fredericksburg, formerly of Kilmallock, Ireland, entered into eternal rest on March 17, 2014, St. Patrick's Day, surrounded by her family in the home of her daughter, Carolyn Brown, where she spent her last years.

She was the widow of Thomas A. Sanders. Josephine was a World War II war bride who worked in London bomb factories during the war.

She was an accomplished gardener and expert seamstress, winning recognition for her hand-sewn quilts and wall hangings. She worked as a volunteer for Mary Washington Hospital and was active in the Church of Christ.

She was a loving wife and devoted mother of three daughters, Jo Ann Nagle of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Carolyn Brown of Fredericksburg and Margaret Sanders of Markham; the grandmother of 11, great-grandmother of four; and great-great-grandmother of four. Her absence will be felt by all who loved her and many more.

A graveside service will be held at noon Thursday, March 27, at Quantico National Cemetery.
