The time to act is now! Virginia has more than 400,000 residents in need of health care, and we need a solution.
A few weeks ago, the legislature ended in a deadlock over Medicaid expansion, preventing the passage of a two-year, $96 billion budget.
The state worries about the financial burden that expanding Medicaid will incur; however, the first three years of expansion are covered entirely by federal dollars, after which 90 percent of costs will be federally funded.
The legislature is coming back to Richmond this week to try again in a special session. We need a positive resolution to this issue, otherwise individual patients and medical institutions will continue to suffer if the state does not expand Medicaid under the federal law known as Obamacare.
