Harrison T. Gay

Harrison Thomas "Tommy" Gay, 56, died at his home in Spotsylvania County on Thursday, March 27, 2014.

Born in Charleston, S.C., he moved with his family to Virginia in 1970. He was a 1976 graduate of Thomas A. Edison High School in Alexandria. He worked for many years at Pan American Airlines, and afterward for several international-shipping companies.

He was known among his friends for his keen interest in music and was an expert guitarist.

Survivors in his immediate family are his wife, the former Cynthia Otto, with whom he was happily married for 30 years; daughter Heather Gay Smith and her son, Brandon Harley James, both of Reno, Nev.; and daughter Michelle Summer Gay, a student at Virginia Commonwealth University. Other survivors include his mother, Susan S. Gay of Fredericksburg; three brothers, Daniel L. and John D. Gay, also of Fredericksburg, and Christopher M. Gay of New York City; and two sisters, Katherine Gay McGinn of Woodbridge and Helen Gay Langlois of Albany, N.Y.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service Fredericksburg Chapel, 1621 Jefferson Davis Highway, where a service will held at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
