On March 11, the Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors voted to accept the Historic Preservation Commission's recommendation to extend the current boardroom mural to include other important residents and landmarks.
Many individuals and groups from both the community and the county staff worked for several years to expand the representation of Spotsylvania history.
The grass-roots effort to recognize people, like Jeannette Garnett Wright and the Rev. Joseph Despot, is not finished.
The next step is to see that the project is funded. Hopefully, it will not be long before two blank wall areas are filled with additional contributors to the history of Spotsylvania beyond the Colonial period and the Civil War.
