Roy F. Lumsden

Roy Franklin Lumsden, 91, of Orange County died Friday, April 11, 2014, at Martha Jefferson Hospital.

Born Jan. 29, 1923, in Orange County, he was the son of the late Robert Benjamin and Gladys Kube Lumsden. He was also preceded in death by his brother Maxey Lumsden.

Roy was retired from C&P Telephone Co., was a World War II Army veteran and was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, Telephone Pioneers of America and Salem United Methodist Church. He attended Orange Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Pugh Lumsden of Orange; daughter Joyce Lumsden Bosworth and husband Michael of Orange; two sons, Stuart Franklin Lumsden and wife Kris of Johnson City, Tenn., and Bev Gray Lumsden of Mineral; a brother, Cecil Lumsden of Richmond; a sister, Alva Rhea Cooper of Maryland; six grandchildren, Thomas Lumsden, Yvonne Dawson, Melissa Via, Ben Sanner, John Bosworth and Anna Bosworth; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 14, at Orange Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rick Clore and the Rev. Victor Schmick officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends following the service in the Pine Room at the church.

Memorial contributions my be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 28123 Constitution Highway, Rhoadesville, VA 22542; or to Orange Baptist Church, 123 W. Main Street, Orange, VA 22960.
