Margaret A. Spencer

Loving mother and grandmother Margaret A. Spencer, 90, has gone to join her beloved husband, Floyd T. Spencer Sr., and her only son, Floyd T. "Pete" Spencer Jr. Both departed this life in 1973. Her passing to the place that God has prepared for her was on Monday, April 14, 2014.

She was born July 29, 1923, to Joseph and Mary Bryant Graninger, as their firstborn and only daughter.

Her eldest daughter, Sylvia J. (Bootsie) Spencer, has been her legal guardian and caregiver, along with grand-daughter Jennifer Jackson-Conner, her husband, Ian, and great-granddaughter Macayle Ianna Conner.

Macayle has been at the side of her great-grandmother since she was 2 days old. Suffering from advanced dementia, Margaret has related verbally primarily to Macayle.

She is also survived by daughter Genevieve "Sissy" Major, and her sons, David A. "Crockett" Major Jr. and William Edward Major and his wife, Bebe; her brothers Morris "Buddy" Graninger and James Graninger; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members, including Teresa Major, Jeanette "Dolly" Graninger and Helen Graninger.

She was the sister of the late Joseph "JR," Thomas "Joe" and Charles "Charlie" Graninger and the mother-in-law of the late David A. Major Sr. and Clinton L. Jackson.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Regester Chapel cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Regester Chapel Cemetery Fund, 85 Bells Road, Stafford, VA 22554; or to the Wounded Warrior Program, woundedwarriorprogram .com, or WWP, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256; or a favorite charity should one so desire.
