Sarah L. Vaughan

Sarah Louise Vaughan, 80, of Lake Anna passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014, at home.

She was born to the late Jacob and Hettie Vance, April 20, 1934, in Brownsville, Pa. Sarah graduated from Brownsville High School in 1952. She married the late Walter W. Vaughan in 1959, and they lived the majority of their lives together in Fairfax, before relocating to Lake Anna in 1982, with a winter home in Naples, Fla.

Sarah worked as an operator for the phone company and then the Department of the Navy until she retired in 1978.

In 1982, Sarah and Walter opened Waldan Llamas at Lake Anna. She was passionate about and dedicated to birthing and raising llamas and was fondly known as "The Llama Queen."

Sarah is survived by two children: Walter Vaughan Jr. (Michele) of Front Royal and Daniel Vaughan (Meleah) of Lake Anna; and seven grandchildren, Daniel, Jessica, Ryan, Tyler, Freddy, Sarah and Alyssa. She is also survived by a brother, Robert Vance, and a sister, Lorraine Lunden (William).

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, at Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove, immediately followed by burial at Spring Grove Memorial Park Cemetery in Mineral.
