Edward J. Mruk Sr.

Edward "Ed" Joseph Mruk Sr., 83, of King George County passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

Ed was born March 6, 1931, in East Bethlehem, Pa., to John and Mary (Brehun) Mruk. On Jan. 12, 1952, he married Teresa Langdon in Raton, N.M.

Ed joined the U.S. Army and during his 20 years of service he received numerous commendations. While he was enlisted he bravely served in the Korean conflict. After retiring from the Army, Ed was a police officer for the USPS until retirement.

Ed was an avid golfer and also enjoyed reading, but his favorite way to spend time was in the company of his family and friends.

Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Teresa; his brother, Thomas Mruk; his five children, Susan Sanders and her husband, Doug, Eddie Mruk and his wife, Jane, Betty Paoletti and her husband, Chuck, Norma Purcell and her husband, Craig, and Deb Andreasen; 10 grandchildren, Terrina Chilton, Douglas Sanders Jr., Steven Mruk, Kathryn Paoletti, Robert Purcell, Sean DeAtley, Jessica Diehl, Rachel Andreasen, Taryn Andreasen and Evan Mruk; 11 great-grandchildren, D.J. Wonsey, Kaleb Chilton, Camden Chilton, Nick Diehl, Alex Diehl, Olivia Diehl, Peyton DeAtley, Landon DeAtley, Charles Sanders, Patrick Mruk and John Mruk; and many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Mary Washington Hospice in Fredericksburg for their loving care and support.

A celebration of life service will be held at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, 11089 James Madison Parkway, King George.

Burial will follow at noon in Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle.
