Kirklyn S. Humphreys

Patricia Kirklyn Stratton Humphreys, 67, of Fredericksburg lost her courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Mrs. Humphreys was born in Front Royal on June 4, 1946. She was the daughter of Walter Kirk Stratton and Ruth "Pat" Stratton Grimes.

She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church. She enjoyed her special friendships in the church's book group and appreciated all the support and encouragement she felt from the church members. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bridge and loved to travel and spend time with friends and family. She enjoyed hosting meals and gatherings at her home, and especially loved her time as "Nana" to her three granddaughters.

Up until the time of her illness, Mrs. Humphreys was the president of Pat Grimes Inc., a locally owned business that provides medical equipment for use in patients' homes and has been of service to thousands of local residents. It was established by her mother, "Pat" Grimes, in 1983.

She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 48 years, Richard Elliott Humphreys; sons Matthew Humphreys and wife Elma of San Jose, Calif., and Paul Humphreys and wife Carrie of Fredericksburg; brothers Duane Stratton (Carol), W.K. Stratton (Maureen), and Ross Stratton (Sherrie); sister-in-law Mary Ellen Spears; granddaughters Taylor Humphreys of San Jose and Skyla and Tess Humphreys of Fredericksburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind an extended "step" family and many dear friends from throughout her life.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 2, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Trinity Episcopal Church. Interment will follow in Trinity's Memorial Garden.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the Trinity Episcopal Church "Blessings in a Backpack," 825 College Ave., Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
