Nelson M. Burruss Sr.

Nelson M. Burruss Sr., 83, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Nelson was born in Spotsylvania County. He was retired from Local Teamsters Union 592. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Nelson was a member of Spotswood Baptist Church. He enjoyed the great outdoors and took much pleasure in gardening and yard work. His favorite hobby was repairing and restoring cars, trucks and lawn equipment. He was an extremely talented, self-taught mechanic. He was an avid collector of relics and always had a good story to tell about each item.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jean Hall Burruss; daughter Tracy; son Nelson Jr.; daughter-in-law Paula; grandson Nelson Miller III; granddaughter Holly; brother John Burruss; sister-in-law Barbara; brothers-in-law Wes, Carroll, Steve, Jerry and Rick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nelson was predeceased by his parents, Bessie Payne and John Thomas Burruss; his sister, Nannie Seal; brothers Mason and Thomas Burruss; and brother-in-law, Earl Hall.

Nelson loved his family and his country. He will be greatly missed. "Go rest high on the mountain" Nelson, your work on earth is done.

At Nelson's request, services will be private.
