Paul A. Morie Sr.

Paul Alexander Morie Sr., 82, passed away in Williamsburg on Sunday, June 1, 2014.

He was born in Dandridge, Tenn., on Feb. 22, 1932, and was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Bryan and Artie Solomon Morie.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Davies Morie; a son, Alexander Morie Jr. and his wife, Victoria Cicero Morie, of Williamsburg; a daughter, Elizabeth Morie Cook and her husband, Huestis Pratt Cook III, of Richmond; and his sister, Betty Morie Green of King George County. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Zachary Alexander Morie and his wife, Nesli Monroe Morie, of Davie, Fla., Anna Elizabeth Morie of Williamsburg and Huestis Pratt Cook IV and Addison Louise Cook of Richmond.

He received a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1959 and served as Southeastern Virginia regional sales manager with Massey-Ferguson Inc., Agricultural and Industrial Equipment Branch, until his retirement. During his retirement, he became an antiques curator at Chippokes Plantation Museum in Surry.

He was a resident of Williamsburg from 1959 to 1981, and returned in 1999. Past memberships include Williamsburg German Club, Kiwanis and golf and country clubs in Williamsburg, Lexington and Staunton, where he was an avid golfer. He was also a member of the Old Guard of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association, Sons of Confederate Veterans and a life member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a member of Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at Nash and Slaw Funeral Home in King George County.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, at St. John's Episcopal Church, King George, with interment following in the church cemetery.
