Sharon R. Taylor

Sharon Rowena Taylor, 71, of Maurertown, formerly of Spotsylvania County, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.

She was a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She will be greatly missed by all.

Sharon was born in Alexandria to the late Carroll and Rowena Swecker. She was raised in Woodbridge. She and her husband, Bob, lived in Spotsylvania before moving to Maurertown in 2006. She had retired from McLane Mid-Atlantic in 2005.

Sharon enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing and crafts. She won first place at the Shenandoah Fair a few years ago for a family heirloom quilt she made. Sharon delighted in spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren, creating memories that will be forever cherished. She made sure they knew how much she loved them all: "To infinity and beyond, all around the world and back again."

Sharon is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert L. Taylor II of Maurertown; daughter Sandy Flippo and husband Dwayne of Spotsylvania; son Billy Jones and wife Debbie of Stafford County; grandchildren Shannon Larkin and husband JP of Oceanside, Calif., Ashley Hand of Spotsylvania, Brian Jones of Aldie and Stacey Flippo of Spotsylvania. She was the proudest great-grandmother to Kayde and Abby Hand, Natalie Larkin and Colton Painter. She is also survived by her brother, Kenny Swecker and wife Patty of Woodbridge; her sisters-in-law, Barbara Swisher of Deland, Fla., and Vickie Petrow of Front Royal; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, at Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock, with the Rev. Robert Hoskins officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
