Russell H. Wrightson

Russell Harden "Rusty" Wrightson, 58, of Fredericksburg passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital.

In his professional life Russell has left traces of his craftsmanship all over Spotsylvania County. After the loss of his right arm and eventual acceptance of his disability, he remained a capable and avid woodworker; he reveled in sharing furniture on display in his house that was "found in the dump." With his masterful touch, new life was brought to the wood.

Russell had an extended battle with alcoholism and was able to overcome the disease for the last years of his life. This afforded him the opportunity to mend old and create new relationships. He became a devoted grandfather, a loving husband and a supportive father. With his masterful touch, he crafted a life complete with pitfalls and redemption, anger and love, defeat and success; he lived fully, despite having been taken suddenly and young.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin P. Wrightson.

Survivors include his wife, Christina Wrightson; mother Virginia Everett; stepfather Jack Everett; sons Daniel Latham (April) and Russell Wrightson Jr. (Maury); brother Edwin P. Wrightson (Lisa); sisters Kathy Maher (James) and Donna Hand (Scott); and three grandchildren, Duncan T. Wrightson, Linus D. Wrightson and Alanna D. Latham.

A service will be held at noon Wednesday, June 11, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
