Shirley P. Gordon, 78, of Fredericksburg passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014, in the comfort of her own home.
Born April 6, 1936, in Asheville, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Roel and Otis Smith.
Shirley had been a member of the Women of the Moose, Fredericksburg Chapter 1592, since 1982 and was an avid member of the National Society of Tole Painters. She was an extraordinary mother, grandmother and wife.
Shirley holds a special place in the hearts of everyone she touched, but for all of us there is one common theme that we can all agree on. What we will remember the most about her was her creative spirit. Her art wasn't just a hobby, it was a legacy, a legacy that will live on in the many lives that it has touched. When the sun rises or sets with all its glory and color we would like to think that Shirley had a hand in painting it.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Denis L. Gordon; four children, Gaither M. Pugh and wife Virginia of Lexington Park, Md., Bonnie Stone of Charlotte, N.C., Patricia Lynn Thomas and husband Michael of Johnson City, Tenn., and Kathy Ann Roman and husband James of Richmond; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister Elizabeth Sheffield of Nags Head, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
