Madeline P. Curtis

Madeline Payne Curtis, 97, of Partlow died Monday, June 16, 2014, at Bowling Green Health and Rehab Center.

She was a lifelong resident of Partlow, where she was the matriarch of the Payne family and a pillar of the community. She was a faithful, Christian member of Wallers Baptist Church, where she held many offices, including Sunday school teacher. She was a great missions worker. For several years she served as a substitute teacher at Marye School, where she taught many Spotsylvania County residents. She was a homemaker, mother and sole caregiver of her mother, Mrs. Mary V. Payne. She worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation for several years with her close friend Daisy Houston.

Survivors include her son, Thomas Rodney Curtis; two daughters, Pam Butler and Margaret Howard; four grandchildren, Felicia Curtis Heflin, A.D. Butler III and David and Charles Dobbins; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, at Wallers Baptist Church, Partlow, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideon's International.
