Hildegarde F. Oberhofer

Hildegarde F. "Hilda" Oberhofer, 98, of Fredericksburg died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Mrs. Oberhofer was the widow of the late Julias Thomas Oberhofer. She was the first woman air traffic controller in the eastern United States at LaGuardia Airport for five years. She taught in a one-room country schoolhouse for one year and fourth grade in Malvern, N.Y., for 27 years. Mrs. Oberhofer was a member of the Fredericksburg Church of Christ.

Survivors include her daughter, Lynn Ann Reddick, and husband Robert Welch of Aquia Harbour; sister Mildred Louise Pearce-Jones-Land of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Richardson and husband Kevin, Kristie Lynn Reddick and Brandon Robert Reddick and wife Laura; and three great-grandchildren, Corbin Thomas Richardson, Emily Kate Richardson and Maddox James Richardson.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
