Maude Anna Minniear

A longtime resident of Lafayette, Ind., Maude Anna "Nan" Minniear, 96, died on Friday, June 13, 2014.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edward O. Minniear Sr., who died in 1991; her three sisters; and her first husband, 1st Lt. Peter L. Whelan, who was killed aboard a B-25 in France, Sept. 11, 1944.

She graduated from Nazareth College in Bards-town, Ky., and then graduated from St. Joseph Infirmary School of Nursing in Louisville, Ky. She practiced nursing in the 1940s as obstetrics supervisor, and also as a public health nurse in her hometown of Henderson, Ky.

Mrs. Minniear, an accomplished violinist, played with the West Lafayette Symphony. She was a member of the Catholic Nurses of Lafayette; St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary; St. Mary Cathedral; the Lafayette Country Club; the John Purdue Club, and Gold Star Wives of America.

At the center of her life was her beloved family and at the center of her nature were faith, optimism and love.

She is survived by a son, Edward O. Minniear Jr., and his wife, Sharon; grandchildren Laura Minniear Light and husband Rob, and Catherine Minniear Drebing and husband Matthew, all of Fredericksburg, and Edward O. Minniear III of New York City. She is also survived by a daughter, Ann Whelan Minniear O'Connor of Indianapolis, Ind., and her husband, Lawrence; and another son, David M. Minniear of Lafayette, Ind. Nan was a loving grandmother to six grandchildren, and great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated June 17, at St. Mary Cathedral in Lafayette, officiated by Father Joshua Bennett.
