Jane S. Sasser

Jane Scott Sasser died Thursday, June 12, 2014, in Emerald Isle, N.C.

Formerly of Fredericksburg, Jane was the daughter of Lois Cook Sasser of Fredericksburg and the late Phillip Sasser.

Jane grew up in Huntington, W.Va. She attended St. Anne's Belfield in Charlottesville, graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1978, and earned a Masters in Business degree from Old Dominion University.

She was an engineer with General Electric in New Orleans for many years before switching to a career as a book indexer, mainly for medical texts. Her work allowed her to live wherever she pleased, and she enjoyed making dear friends in Orange, Fredericksburg and Jupiter, Fla. Emerald Isle was a special place for Jane.

Janie loved dogs, the outdoors, golf, tennis and kayaking. Everyone loved Jane. She was always ready with a smile, a twinkle in her eye, a witty remark, and a joke, the cornier the better. She was a member of Fredericksburg United Methodist Church and participated in several of the church's mission trips.

In addition to her mother, Jane is survived by her twin sister, Martha Sasser of Fredericksburg; and three older brothers and their wives, Phillip and Ginnie B. Sasser of Fredericksburg, and John and Nancy Sasser, and William and Jacqueline Sasser, all of Baltimore. Jane was also a loving aunt to several nieces and nephews, including Nancy (Lester), Virginia and Phillip Sasser III. She was married in 1985 to Joseph Womble, who predeceased her.

A private memorial service will be held, her ashes placed in the family plot in Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh, N.C.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to: Mission Trip Scholarships for Adults, Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, 308 Hanover St., Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
