Jean F. Johnson

Jean F. Johnson, 90, of Fredericksburg died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at home.

When Jean was 3, her father built a cottage at Fairview Beach. Over the decades, various family members have lived there, enjoying life in that Potomac River community. A granddaughter and her husband occupy the cottage today.

Jean was a civilian employee of the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring from the accounting department at Quantico. Outside of work, she exhibited many talents, including quilting, baking and gardening. Jean became a Master Gardener and volunteered more than 7,000 hours, tending to the plants on the grounds of Kenmore, Chatham and Ferry Farm.

Survivors include a son, Michael Edward Johnson and wife Paula; two daughters, Wilma Johnson Lawrence and husband David and Donna Johnson Crouse and husband Frank; 12 grandchildren, Johnathan C. Johnson, Gail M. Divver, April L. Bahen and husband Stephen, Adam B. Lawrence and wife Jenny, Amber L. Lawrence and husband Adam Douberly, Walter F. "Tony" Crouse and wife Brenda, Talmadge F. "Timmy" Crouse III and wife Darlene, Rachel J. Stoffan, Philip Johnson, Kara Mahen, Kamile Buckley and Christy Lynn Johnson; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jack Johnson; parents Walter and Rachel Fleming; and a son, Stephen L. Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
