I'd like to thank Dr. Christopher Lillis for his June 22 op-ed in The Free Lance-Star ["Ideological obstruction in Richmond blocks care"].
I have followed the news accounts of the battle over Medicaid expansion in Virginia and also attended one Medicaid Innovation and Reform Commission meeting in Richmond.
Dr. Lillis' list of the three Republican compromise proposals in the General Assembly for closing the medical coverage gap was the clearest and most compelling that I have read.
So many people and legislators of both parties have been trying to make this work and are being stopped at every turn by Republican leadership whose motives are unclear and constantly changing.
How can our state turn down money to help our fellow Virginians? It just doesn't make sense.
