Carol was taken care of by James Trainham and Tommie Ashe and was surrounded by her children when she was called home to the Lord.

Carol retired from the Central Virginia Regional Jail. She loved many things in her life, yet her priority was her children.

Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Larry McCafferty of Louisa; six children, Tommie Ashe (Steve) of Rock Hill, James Trainham of Daytona, Fla., Kevin Trainham (Caren), Kelly Maynor (Max), Maggie Mills (Eddie) and Donna Martin (Ricky), all of Spotsylvania County; brothers Carlton Apperson of King George County, Clayton Apperson Jr. (Linda) and Russell Apperson (Teresa), both of Spotsylvania County; sister Crystal Wells (Gary) of Owings Mills, Md.; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton Bennett Apperson; and Gracie Earlene Apperson, and by her first husband, Thomas E. Trainham.

At Carol's request, she was cremated and no service will be held.

The family thanks the nurses and doctors who provided excellent and compassionate care.
