Robert C. Tyler

Robert Carlton Tyler, 69, of Fredericksburg, died peacefully Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Bob grew up loving bicycles and riding his high-wheel bike around town. He was most proud of completing a one day, 100-mile ride and receiving a century medal from the National Wheelman Organization. Bob and Susan made many trips in his Model A panel truck with the Historic Fredericksburg Region Antique Automobile Club of America in the 1970s and '80s. Driving all over the East Coast hunting for antiques was a passion until the end. Bob was an active member of car clubs, train clubs and the Virginia Gentlemen for many years. He spent 33 years as a teacher in the Spotsylvania County and Fredericksburg City school systems.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Olie H. and Ersie M. Tyler.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Susan Carter Tyler, and numerous cousins

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at St. George's Episcopal Church.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one's favorite charity.
