Walter E. Wright

Walter E. Wright, 87, of Unionville passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.

He was born on Feb. 27, 1927, in Lisbon, Ohio, the only child of Ralph and Elizabeth Almond Wright.

He moved to Orange County as a young child and lived in Locust Grove and Unionville.

Walter is survived by his wife of 61 years, Murriel Taggart Wright (whom he married on Sept. 6, 1952); his daughter, Lisa Erb; his son, Ricky; and his granddaughter, Abby. The mention of Abby's name brought a smile to his lips and lit up his face. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He also worked at A.W. Mitchell and at Reynolds Pontiac Co. Then in 1966, he transferred to Transcontinental Gas Co. (now Williams Co.), where he worked until his retirement in 1999.

A funeral will held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove, with burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Unionville. The Rev. Roger Woody will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Unionville.
