Virginia C. Kerr

Virginia Cooke Kerr, 87, of Spotsylvania County passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Bowling Green Health & Rehab.

Virginia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family very much and her passion was spending time with them. She worked for many years at Morganstern Pants Factory and retired from G&H Pants Factory, both in Fredericksburg.

Virginia was born and raised in Spotsylvania, and lived there for most of her life, except for a short time spent in Washington, D.C. In the 1950s, Virginia and her husband built their family home on a section of the land originally belonging to her grandparents. She was a lifelong member of Massaponax Baptist Church. In her later years, Virginia loved taking trips with her family.

Mrs. Kerr was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. Kerr Jr.; her son, Patrick W. Kerr; parents Cleveland Leslie and Mary James Carneal Cooke; three brothers; and six sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Deal and her husband, Otis Jr.; six grandchildren, Jennifer Stewart (Thomas), Marcia Stevens (Arthur Jr.), Dennis Carroll (Rachael), John Deal (Kristen), Otis Deal III (Donna) and Dena Deal (Justin); 12 great-grandchildren, Michael, Meghan, Jakob, Tyler, Mercedes, Kelcey, Ashley, Arthur III, Haley, Claire, Reagan and Jacob; and three great-great-grandchildren, Trevor, Zachary and Traez.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 2, at the funeral home. The Rev. John C. Edmonds and Pastor Michael Reid Sr. will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
