Richard L. Mercilliott, 77, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, after a long illness.
Richard was born in Washington, D.C., the son of James Mercilliott and Florence King Mercilliott. He graduated from Anacostia High School in 1956 and married his high school sweetheart, Lynn Shaw, in 1957.
Richard was a pipefitter and a member of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators union, Local 24. He retired in 1993 from the Walter E. Campbell Co. Richard spent his retirement years at Lake Caroline in Ladysmith, where he enjoyed fishing, boating and the simple things in life. During his life, Richard was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Madison Ruritan Club.
He was a longtime member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Beaverdam.
He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Lynn, in 2007.
Richard is survived by his only child, Catherine McDonald and her husband, Doug, of Fairfax Station. He spent the final years of his life with his loving companion, Sue Kersey of Ladysmith.
Richard will be remembered as a loving father and loyal friend and will be missed by many.
The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Storke Funeral Home, 111 S. Main St., Bowling Green. A funeral and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 18580 Partlow Road, Beaverdam.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rehoboth United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
