Marcia A. Hayes

Marcia Ann McOmber Hayes, 62, went with our Lord on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014.

She married Audubon Layne "Audie" Hayes in 1976. She expects him to meet her once again in heaven someday. She also leaves behind two sons, Jason Audubon Hayes and his wife, Jessica, and Brandon Dale Hayes and his wife, Clarissa, all of whom she was very proud of and expects them to live full lives with Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. She was also blessed with a grandson, Audubon James Hayes; and two granddaughters, Joanna Catherine Hayes and Addison Mae Hayes. She is also survived by a brother, Jim McOmber and his wife, Barbara Kaye; a brother-in-law, Dick; sister-in-law Norma; and a niece, Carissa McOmber.

Marcia believed God's talent given to her was teaching. She was a schoolteacher at Caroline Middle School. After retiring, she taught GED. She was active in Carmel Baptist Church as a Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible School director. She was a life member of Ladysmith Volunteer Rescue Squad and taught CPR for many groups in the community. She was one of the original female members of the squad and served in various offices including first female president. She was a charter member of the Madison Ruritan Club and served in various offices including the first female president.

Marcia was a charter member of the current Caroline County Agricultural Fair Association and served as their treasurer. In 2011, she started a Christian cancer support group for cancer survivors, patients and caregivers. Although she was not a native of Caroline County, she enjoyed serving the community.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Carmel Baptist Church, Ruther Glen. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Carmel Baptist Church Improvement Fund, Box 52, Ruther Glen, VA 22546 or Caroline Agricultural Fair, Box 1207, Ruther Glen, VA 22546.
