A 17-year-old driving a Jaguar died after an early morning crash today. Alexander Sherman was traveling northbound on Route 604 in Stafford at about 1:30 a.m. when his car ran off the right side of the road and struck an embankment, said Sgt. F.L. Tyler of Virginia State Police.

He said the car flipped and Sherman was thrown from it. Sherman was not wearing a seat belt.

A passenger in the car, another 17-year-old male, walked away without injuries and was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, Tyler said.

The single-car accident happened on Route 604, also known as Belle Plains Road, just one mile north of White Oak Road.

Sherman died at Mary Washington Hospital about 2:30 a.m., Tyler said.

He said speed was thought to be a factor in the crash.
