The Commonwealth Transportation Board, meeting in Lynchburg today, agreed to a draft budget to fund construction of a $21.1 million urban interchange over the next six years.
The Stafford Board of Supervisors supports a design that would allow traffic to flow freely from Interstate 95 and Warrenton Road to Butler Road via an overpass.
Underneath, U.S. 1 traffic would be c0ntrolled by a traffic signal. That traffic would have access to Warrenton Road and Butler Road via ramps.
The project has been in the design phase since last year.
Once the construction funding receives final approval, the project would take about six years to build.
