A dropped wallet led to the arrest of one of two men charged with burglary in Spotsylvania County.

According to a press release from 1st Sgt. Liz Scott of the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, police responded to a report of a possible burglary in progress at a residence on Biddle Court in the Estates of Chancellorsville on Thursday afternoon.

Deputy S. Pyktel, responding to the report, encountered a 2000 Ford Expedition attempting to leave the driveway, Scott said.

The vehicle stopped and three males got out and ran into the woods, Scott said.

Other deputies joined Pyktel in the pursuit, and one of the suspects, 24-year-old Dontay Xavier Lewis of Stafford, was apprehended a short time later.

The other two suspects were identified, one by a wallet dropped at the scene by Mallie L. Stevens, 28, of Fredericksburg. He was arrested the same night after running from his home on Princess Elizabeth Street, Scott said.

The suspects had stolen electronics, jewelry and guns, which were all recovered. No was was injured during the incident, Scott said.

Lewis and Stevens are charged with burglary, grand larceny, larceny of a firearm and obstruction of justice. Both are being held in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.

No charges have been filed yet against the third suspect.
