Most of the milk spilled into Deep Run off U.S. 17 at the Stafford County/Fauquier County line around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2008. Jacobs suffered scratches and remained at the scene. Robert A. No one was injured when a tanker truck carrying gallons of raw milk ran off the road this morning at the Stafford County/Fauquier County line on U.S. 17.

The driver, John Jacobs, sustained only minor scratches and was not transported anywhere, said Major Mauck of the Fauquier Sheriff’s office.

The tanker, which was travelling from Windsor Pa. to Charleston S.C., turned over and caught fire when Jacobs swerved to avoid a deer around 3 a.m. Most of the milk spilled into Deep Run where the tanker trunk stopped.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident and only Jacobs was in the tanker truck.

The call was received around 5 a.m., Mauck said. A report hasn’t been filed at this time.

you obviously don't have a CDL. It is not easy in any state to get a CDL. It is much tougher than getting your normal license. Not professionals, agreed, some are not very professional at all but the Feds say that we are the pro's. Very first paragraph in the CDL manual says so, so blame the Feds not us or the state.

...someone has a CDL doesn't make them a "professional" driver. It doesn't take much to get a CDL in VA. Look at all of these "professional" drivers that try to use the size of their vehicle to "bully" smaller vehicles. I see very few true professional drivers on the road...

It's an 80K lb truck, you never attempt to avoid the deer, you plow it over and be done with it. This guy is wishing now that he had plowed it over instead of swerving, would have cost him less in the long run. I would rather fix my headlight and grill than pay for this cleanup and a whole new truck. First rule of trucking and driving in general, never swerve to avoid an animal unless you can do it safely. A tanker is one of, if not the worst truck to be trying to swerve and miss animals.

Who's to say that (posted by sahmom , July 2, 2008 4:16 pm)    0 likes
hitting the deer woul've caused less harm? It may have casued more, no one will ever know, but don't be so judgemental!!! The guy probably feels bad enough already!!!
