A Virginia Department of Health test indicated unacceptably high levels of bacteria in water along Fairview Beach in King George.

Date published: 7/17/2008

The latest swimming advisory at Fairview Beach has been lifted.

An advisory was posted Tuesday after water tests showed higher-than-allowed bacteria levels at the popular King George County beach on the Potomac River.

Follow-up tests yesterday by the Health Department and released this afternoon showed that the bacteria had fallen to within safe levels. The beach is tested weekly during the May to September swimming season, and is one of 47 beaches monitored by the state.

Six swimming advisories have been posted at Fairview Beach since May.
