Traffic stop nets 19 pounds of pot

Fredericksburg man faces drug charges after early morning arrest in Spotsylvania.

Date published: 10/2/2008

BY ELLEN BILTZ

A Fredericksburg man was charged early this morning after Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered a large amount of drugs in the trunk of his car.

Nathaniel Daye, 24, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and could face additional charges, said 1st Sgt. Liz Scott of the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office in a release.

A deputy stopped Daye about 1:45 a.m. for defective equipment and noticed an open container of alcohol next to him in the car, Scott said.

She said Daye seemed nervous, but consented to a search, where the deputy found about 19 pounds of marijuana in the trunk and another small bag in Daye’s waistband.

Detectives then executed a search warrant at Daye’s Fredericksburg home, where they found five pounds of marijuana, one gram of cocaine, 10 pills of ecstasy, a handgun, scales and a bullet-proof vest.

Daye was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.

Not His Daye ...... (posted by Ranko , Oct. 3, 2008 1:22 am)
I agree with the crowd here that this seems to be one of these "stupid crook" stories that you hear about all the time. My question would be where did he get that much weed and from who and did he own the drugs in the trunk and in the house or did he have a partner?

He was stoped for defective equipment, more than likely a Tail light out , I have been stiped for the same thing and I am White. Being Black didn't get him locked up. All that Dope did. Please don't try and play that Worn Out race card. Be Real..

Reading comprehesion.. (posted by Blk97F150 , Oct. 2, 2008 8:38 pm)
You guys sure do read more into a story then is posted. The guy was not arrested for the open container. He was also not arrested for DUI/DWI. The open container 'raised suspciion' enough that the cop requested to search... the dude said yes, cop found the dope. Don't get me wrong... i'm glad they got the dope off the streets... but why one would voluntarily wiave thier rights is beyond me (especially if they have dope in the car! lol).

What do you expect...your town is 55 miles north (posted by Mandrake , Oct. 2, 2008 7:09 pm)
of the Capital of the Confederate States of America, where the Statue of Mr Ashe is surrounded by statues of Confederate Generals and such... Just kidding, this is a very progressive town as demonstrated in attendance as was demonstarted at the second coming, and again at the 3rd coming.

Arrest and search (posted by fredtalkinmofo , Oct. 2, 2008 6:20 pm)
Once they arrested him for the open container, they had enough to search the car with or without his consent.
