A Fredericksburg man was charged early this morning after Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered a large amount of drugs in the trunk of his car.

Nathaniel Daye, 24, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and could face additional charges, said 1st Sgt. Liz Scott of the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office in a release.

A deputy stopped Daye about 1:45 a.m. for defective equipment and noticed an open container of alcohol next to him in the car, Scott said.

She said Daye seemed nervous, but consented to a search, where the deputy found about 19 pounds of marijuana in the trunk and another small bag in Daye’s waistband.

Detectives then executed a search warrant at Daye’s Fredericksburg home, where they found five pounds of marijuana, one gram of cocaine, 10 pills of ecstasy, a handgun, scales and a bullet-proof vest.

Daye was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
