One of the owners of Lee-Curtis, Graves, Freeman and Hall Insurance was arrested yesterday morning on multiple drug distribution charges.

Robert Curtis Lee, 57, of Spotsylvania was arrested after Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office detectives executed a search warrant on his home near the Fredericksburg Country Club yesterday morning, said 1st Sgt. Liz Scott.

Scott said the search turned up more than 42 grams of cocaine as well as marijuana, methamphetamine. Detectives also seized $500 in cash and a 2006 Volvo convertible.

The search warrant was obtained after an undercover detective made four different buys from Lee at his home on Vance Drive, Scott said. She said the first three undercover buys were for three grams each of cocaine. That is equivalent to what is commonly known as an “8-ball,” she said. The last buy was for six grams of cocaine.

Lee is charged with four counts of distribution of cocaine, one count of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of methamphetamine.

He is being held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail, Scott said.

According to a Free Lance-Star article from 1999, the Lee-Curtis Insurance company was 130 years old at the time, and merged with Freeman, Graves and Hall Insurance. The Lee-Curtis company was founded by W.E. Curtis, according to a 2003 article. It was then bought by T. Eldred Lee, an extended relative, in 1957.

Lee is one of six owners of the family-owned insurance company.
