General Assembly update. Date published: 2/26/2009
RICHMOND (AP) - The public would not have access to a statewide database of Virginians with permits to carry concealed handguns under legislation on its way to the governor.
Republican Delegate Dave Nutter’s bill passed out of the Senate unanimously on Wednesday. It passed unopposed from the House earlier this month. The public still could get information on concealed carry permit holders at each circuit court, but would not have access to a statewide State Police database. Nutter first introduced the bill last year after The Roanoke Times posted the state police database of permit holders on its Web site. Former Attorney General Bob McDonnell advised the state police to stop making the list available, but Nutter said any Circuit Court judge could overrule the opinion.
They need to cut it off from the papers like the Free Lance Fishwrapper! It is no ones business. Just because information is available does not mean it should find its way into print! But I will say it keeps my permit business busy as I teach a Utah permit class. It is cheap, it is honored in Virginia and the FLS cannot publish it!
This is the reason and only reason I canceled my subscription to the FLS. Publishing the names of private citizens who obtain a concealed carry permit...FLS you should be ashamed!!!
Fantastic! I'll be sure to write my delegates and urge their support.
A big thanks to Del Nutter for protecting the privacy of law abiding Virginians!!! If you support this measure, you should email your comments to him as well: DelDNutter@house.state.va.us
If i am looking to rob someone, i will definitely go to the house where no guns are registered. It is a shame we have to create a law to prevent access to this. We shouldnt have to have a permit to conceal or own. Nowhere in the constituion does it say "arms must be registered".
