fredericksburg.com launches redesign
Countdown begins to new site launch.
Date published: 9/1/2009
We've launched a half-dozen redesigns of fredericksburg.com since the site went live in April 1996.
I can't think of one that was well-received.
So while we're excited about the new design that goes live this week, we know to expect a flood of feedback.
Like it? Let us know? Hate it? We KNOW you'll tell us.
Something not working for you? Encountering a technical glitch? Can't find one of your favorite features? Whatever your experience with the new fredericksburg.com, we hope you'll pass along your comments to us at newsroom@fredericksburg.com.
Here's what we hope you find: A less-cluttered community Web site that connects your life with your community.
Content aside, you'll notice changes in our advertising layout and delivery. Both are designed to serve the needs of area businesses and our users.
One change you'll notice is the introduction of SearchLocal. You can now search the Fredericksburg marketplace by keyword, business name or category. Every search completed gives us information to help improve your future search returns. For feedback on SearchLocal, please email searchlocal@fredericksburg.com.

Looks like the same old website from 1996 with minor changes.

I like plaid and madras as much as the next guy -- but it's not something I would try to apply to Web site design. Let the visitor n a v i g a t e -- don't attempt to place *everything* on a homepage! Use your analytics to guide your design.(How is the CTR on those moronic banner ads anyway?)
Give the page some visual coherence and structure. Select a coherent color palette.
