Midday VRE Train Cancelled
Nov. 24, 2009 12:02 pm
Know someone trying to ride the midday Virginia Railway Express train south on the Fredericksburg Line today? Call them and tell them their train's been cancelled. Instead, they need to board the midday Manassas Line train for several stops, and then detrain to take buses bound for Fredericksburg Line stations. Here are the details from VRE, e-mailed to regular riders: There is a train derailed immediately north of our service area which is causing freight train congestion in our service area. As a result Fredericksburg Train #301 (Departs Union Station at 12:55p) is canceled. We are providing a bus-bridge option for those riders that planned on taking Fredericksburg Train #301. Please board Manassas Train #325 (Departs Union Station at 1:15p) and detrain at the Backlick Road station. There will be buses at Backlick to transport passengers to most Fredericksburg Line stations. Riders can board one of three buses: one for Woodbridge, Rippon, and Quantico; one for Brooke and Leeland; or one for Fredericksburg. VRE staff will be on hand to direct you to the correct bus. For riders that board at Franconia/Springfield, board Fairfax Connector Bus 401 to connect to the Backlick Road VRE station and take the appropriate bus from there. To reach Lorton, riders must use Metrorail to Franconia/Springfield and connect to Fairfax Connector Bus 171 which stops at the Lorton VRE station. The Metro Option will be open for the early part of the afternoon. Show your valid VRE ticket to Metro station personnel for entry. For riders who board at Lorton or any station south, please call our office at (703) 684-1001 for options.
