Port Royal home invasion (crossbow incident)
Oct. 20, 2009 12:54 pm
On October 18, 2009 at approximately 10:30 P.M., Caroline County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence in the Rappahannock Academy area after a 9-1-1 caller reported that a home invasion had occurred. While Deputies were responding to the reported home invasion, a second incident was dispatched reporting a vehicle accident within a short distance of the home of the 9-1-1 call. When the Deputies arrived at the home they found two female victims and two male victims which reported two masked men armed with handguns and one man armed with a crossbow had forced their way into the home, sexually assaulted the two female victims and shot one male victim with the crossbow. The injured victims were immediately transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Deputies then began investigating the vehicle accident and determined that the suspects from the home invasion had crashed while fleeing from the scene of the crime. The King George County Sheriff’s Office and the VA State Police then responded to the scene to assist the investigation with tracking K-9’s and tactical support. During a search of the area for the suspects one suspect was located and taken into custody. The Caroline Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division began their investigation by executing a search warrant at the scene of the home invasion. During the execution of the warrant, Investigators seized numerous items of evidence related to the home invasion and in one bedroom of the home they located $15,000.00 worth of suspected powder cocaine, $1,000.00 worth of suspected marijuana and over $7,000.00 in cash money. Investigators then turned their focus to identifying and locating the other two suspects from the home invasion. At approximately 4:00 P.M. on the 19th, Major S. Moser responded to a call of a subject walking in the wood line along the roadway in the Woodford area. Major Moser located the subject, confirmed him to be one of the suspects and took him into custody. After further investigation, Investigators identified the third suspect and with the assistance of the Fredericksburg City Police Dept, took the third suspect into custody at 8:00 P.M. on the evening of the 19th. All of the victims in this case have been treated and released from the hospital. Sheriff Lippa stated “We do not believe this incident was a random act, we believe the suspects in this case targeted this particular home with the intention of robbing it for drugs or money” Sheriff Lippa further stated “Thanks to the hard work of the men and women of the Caroline Sheriff’s Office and the continued cooperation of surrounding law enforcement agencies, this case was quickly brought to a close and all of the suspects involved have been arrested”. William Cox, a resident of the home was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and obstructing justice. (Photo not available at this time). James Eddie Morrison, a 29 year old from Fredericksburg, Joseph Daniel Hinson, a 22 year old from Fredericksburg and Ronnie Steven Neff a 26 year old from Spotsylvania were all arrested and charged with respective 21 Felony counts. Charges included armed robbery, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, forcible sodomy, attempted murder, and sexual assault. This investigation is on-going; therefore, no further information will be released as there may be more charges filed.
