- What was D-Day? Why was it such an important event in World War II?
- What skills does Latisha use to track down the correct answer to this chapter’s clue? How does she decide whom she should ask about the war? Do you think the older man minded answering her questions?
- When the students get to the D-Day Museum in New Orleans, Myron is excited about the idea of D-Day. Why? FreeZee has a different point of view. How does he feel? Why do you think he included this stop on the scavenger hunt?
ADVANCED ACTIVITIES
- Do some research on the D-Day Museum in New Orleans. Why do you suppose people visit museums and memorials dedicated to wars and the people who have fought in them? Does your community have any war memorials or events to observe the times in which local citizens have participated in the armed services? What reaction do people have when they visit these memorials or participate in such events?
- The students have traveled thousands of miles in their search for the answers to the scavenger hunt. Locate all their stops on a map. Imagine that you are putting together a traveling scavenger hunt similar to the one FreeZee has created. What parts of the United States would you like for the team to visit? What historical information would you use as clues?
