A Louisa man died in a two-vehicle, head-on crash Sunday on Zachary Taylor Highway in Orange County.

Virginia State Police Trooper M. Burgett is investigating the wreck that occurred at 6:15 p.m. on Aug. 2 on U.S. 522, less than a mile north of State Route 20.

A 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara was traveling north on 522 when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound 2020 Nissan Rogue.

The driver of the Suzuki, Timothy L. Crites, 43, died at the scene. Crites was not wearing a seat belt, according to a news release from State Police spokesman Sgt. Brent Coffey.

The driver of the Nissan, a 38-year-old man form Orange, suffered serious injuries. He was transported to VCU Medical Center along with the two passengers in the same car, a 31-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl, who were also seriously injured. All three were wearing seatbelts, according to authorities.

The State Police’s Culpeper Division Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is assisting with the crash investigation.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Fire and EMS, and VDOT also assisted at the scene.
