The 25th annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will take place nationwide Saturday.
As part of the intiative, letter carriers across the country will collect non-perishable food donations from customers. The National Association of Letter Carriers urges residents to set out nonperishable food well before their letter carrier’s normal pick-up time.
Last year, carriers from Fredericksburg and surrounding offices collected 80,000 pounds of food, which was donated to the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, according to food drive coordinator Paula Schenemann, who works for the U.S. Postal Service in Fredericksburg.
New this year is a virtual food drive for those who prefer to donate online. Each dollar donated provides two meals. To make a tax-deductible donation, go to fredfood.org.
