Jack Delano was a photographer for the Farm Security Administration in the 1940s. Here are some of his photographs capturing Caroline County families as they pack to leave their homes to make way for Fort A.P. Hill training base. He also took photos of soldiers appearing in town and on the evacuated properties, as well as displaced families moving into prefabricated housing built by the government. These and more of Delano's photos are part of the Library of Congress' collection and are available for viewing at loc.gov/pictures.
