Marion Underhill, 101, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017, at Hughes Home.
Mrs. Underhill was born in Chicago to William and Ellen Vilsoet. The oldest of four children, she enjoyed travel, tennis, reading, and friendships that lasted a lifetime. After her marriage to James Underhill in 1944, the couple lived in New Jersey and North Carolina where she raised a family and performed extensive volunteer work for church, schools and Scouting. Mrs. Underhill moved to Fredericksburg 20 years ago after the death of her husband.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; son William Underhill; and brothers William and Howard Vilsoet.
Survivors include her son, John Underhill and his wife, Lynn; granddaughter Rebecca Underhill and her husband, Gregory Barnhart; grandson Gregory Underhill and his wife, Victoria; great-grandson Braden Underhill; sister Loraine Dickerson; daughter-in-law Carol Schwartzman; and many nieces and nephews.
The family extends their grateful thanks to her special care givers, Karen Wanner, Wanda Draper and Jackie Welch, as well as the kind staff at Hughes Home.
Services will be private.
The Talking Books for the Blind program of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library provided Mrs. Underhill with many hours of joy for the past 20 years, helping her maintain a lifelong passion for learning. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to support that work through gifts to The Friends of the Library, PO Box 201, Fredericksburg, VA 22404.
