Purging region’s Civil War history
While the state, local organizations, and individuals are dedicated to preserving and enhancing our local battlefields, it is unfortunate that remnants of Fredericksburg’s Civil War culture are at the same time vanishing.
Statues, plaques and historical names are being purged from institutions and streets, such as Jefferson-Davis Highway, to strip Fredericksburg of our Civil War legacy and tourist attractions.
