The Fredericksburg City Council’s recent decision to allow more density in its unique historic district may in hindsight turn out to be, as council member Tim Duffy put it, a “pivotal point” in the city’s long and storied history. But it remains to be seen whether the changes the council is advocating will enhance or destroy the city’s historic downtown.

Superintendent Sara Calveric presented a report on how unspent money from fiscal 2018, 2019 and 2020 could be used to pay for capital improvements to Caroline High School, Caroline Middle School, a building annex and three elementary schools.

About 100 protesters showed up Monday morning to a downtown Richmond fortified in anticipation of their arrival. Flanked by reporters whose numbers nearly matched theirs early in the day, the activists represented multiple groups, including the Boogaloo Boys, The Original Black Panthers and Proud Boys.

Although people should always be considerate of others, including those who need to sleep, playing loud music in a downtown bar should not be treated the same as turning up the stereo full blast in a small city apartment building.
