RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER: Chris Hicks reports the river is finally starting to clear after weeks of rain that has muddied the water and kept anglers off the river. He expects good conditions by the weekend. Now is the time to catch big catfish before they retreat to their beds.
POTOMAC RIVER: Reel Bass Adventures reports bass action is slow but consistent. Early morning top water action can be had along pad fields by using buzz baits or poppers. Inside edges of grass beds hold good bass that like chatter baits, swim jigs and nine inch plastic worms. As the tide falls, move to the center of grass beds and pitch or flip plastic creature baits or jig-and-craw combos.
LAKE ANNA: Not available.
LAKE ORANGE: Darrell Kennedy of Anglers Landing (540/623-6011) reports water temperature in the mid-80s and stained. Bass are being caught on topwaters and soft plastics. Crappie are being caught on small minnows in 8-12 feet of water. Catfish have been caught on chicken livers and live bait. A few walleye have been caught on nightcrawlers and minnows worked along rocky areas down lake.
